Endoscopic spine surgery, increasingly popular worldwide and practiced in select centers in Turkey, offers rapid recovery for patients with severe mobility issues, according to Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atıf Aksekili, an Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Specialist. This minimally invasive technique, involving incisions of just 5-7 millimeters, allows direct access to spinal issues such as calcifications and disc herniation.

Aksekili explained, "Using cameras and special tools, we can treat the pathology effectively. This method significantly simplifies recovery compared to open surgeries. We aim for the quickest possible recovery, and thanks to the small incisions, patients can stand up shortly post-surgery. This targeted approach minimizes damage to normal tissues and reduces the need for implants like screws and plates." The technique can address spinal canal narrowing and nerve compression issues.

"Camera technology enhances visibility by 30 times"

Emphasizing the advantages of endoscopic surgery, Aksekili noted that the cameras provide a much better field of view than traditional methods, expanding visibility significantly. This method, first developed in South Korea about a decade ago, is now widely used in countries like Japan and across Europe and is gaining traction in Turkey.

Case studies include Elif Murat, 75, who suffered severe pain for years and found relief after the surgery, and Mehmet Aktaş, a 74-year-old engineer, who returned to work post-operation after struggling with longstanding issues.
